01 / REAL INTERACTIVE EXAMPLE

See your Markdown as you type.

Works with SRT, WebVTT or plain text. Output is an actual .md file that you can open in Obsidian, GitHub, a markdown editor or an AI chat app you choose.

Load a sample or paste captions to begin.

02 / HOW IT WORKS

A clear transcript without timecode clutter.

1. Export existing subtitles

Download a real SRT or VTT file from your video editor or caption provider. This tool does not transcribe audio or listen to videos; you need existing text subtitles.

2. Turn cues into paragraphs

We read the time-coded cues, remove subtitle formatting, combine adjacent text, and create a Markdown document. Identical overlapping captions can be consolidated. Inspect the text before publishing.

3. Reuse your notes

Save the result as .md and open it in Obsidian, documentation, a personal knowledge base or your writing workflow. For time-coded exports and JSON, use the complete free converter.

Need to do this for an entire course?

Our free Batch Studio tryout processes up to three caption files into organized ZIP folders. The planned $12 Pro download handles up to 200 files per batch and adds subtitle quality reports. Checkout is not enabled while merchant approval is pending.

03 / USEFUL LIMITATIONS

What gets kept and what changes?

Does Markdown preserve original subtitle timestamps?

The default Markdown output prioritizes readable text rather than per-cue timestamps. Turn on the chapter heading option to add headings at approximately five-minute boundaries when timecoded cues are present. If you need every cue timestamp, use JSON export or retain your original SRT.

Can I turn plain Markdown back into synchronized SRT?

No. Ordinary Markdown text does not contain enough timing information to reconstruct accurate SRT. Keep your original subtitle file for revisions.

Can this convert captions from an audio file or YouTube URL?

No audio, video or remote URL processing happens here. First export an actual subtitle or transcript file with your preferred editor or transcriber, then use this local converter.

Do you read or store my transcript?

No transcript content is uploaded by this page. It is processed inside your browser. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics for anonymous page-navigation measurements; see our privacy policy for the site data involved.

What if my SRT has malformed timestamps or special styling?

Malformed cue timestamps may be skipped or generate an error. Text styling and advanced VTT metadata are not guaranteed to survive. Always review a converted file before publishing.
