05 / COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

Is CueShift really free?

Yes. All currently published conversion features are free to use. The current single-file conversion features remain free. An offline batch product is under preparation; live checkout is not enabled yet.

Do you upload my captions?

No. Your file is read by your browser and the output is created locally. We do not run a server-side file upload or conversion API. Your web host may receive normal site access requests and network metadata.

Can it transcribe an audio or video file?

No. CueShift converts existing text captions or transcript text. It does not recognize speech from audio or video. Use your preferred transcription service first, then paste or load the subtitle output here.

Can I convert plain text back to SRT or VTT?

Not automatically. A plain transcript has no timestamps. To export time-coded SRT or VTT, you must provide valid SRT or WebVTT input with original timing data.

How do I fix subtitle timing?

Enter a positive or negative number of seconds in Time shift, then export SRT or VTT. A negative shift is clamped at the start of the timeline.

Do the converter and output support all subtitle formats?

Currently, only SRT and basic WebVTT are supported for time-coded conversions. Complex styling, WebVTT region data and some advanced metadata are not preserved. Always spot-check the exported file.
